EDI 835 EOB Processor
The OnBase EDI 835 EOB processor allows healthcare providers to easily search, retrieve and view individual EOBs received through electronic data interchange (EDI). The 835 Processor takes the remittance data sent from an insurance carrier to a healthcare provider, separates it into individual Explanations of Benefits (EOBs), gathers the proper index information and stores the EOB in OnBase.
The EDI 835 EOB Processor first compresses an EDI 835 file and then processes the file using the selected EDI 835 process format. Once in OnBase, the EDI 835 EOB Processor identifies the beginning of each page and the document type associated with it based on its format.
When the document type is determined, OnBase automatically indexes the document in the OnBase database and assigns keywords to it. OnBase will continue identifying pages and document types until the processing of the EDI 835 file is complete.
Once processed, users can view the individual EOBs using XML style sheets. A sample XML style sheet is included with the processor and can be modified if necessary to fit users and processes. Alternatively, OnBase can generate individual PCL files, which are generated at the time of processing and can be used for batch printing. The EDI 835 processing can also be scheduled for non-peak hours.
Application
Healthcare providers can process all EOBs in a consistent, secure and efficient manner no matter how they are received. By importing electronic EOBs and scanning paper EOBs into OnBase, all are controlled completely and consistently in electronic form. Providers can then reduce paper and printing costs and, perhaps most importantly, eliminate manual processing. Users will spend less time pushing paper and more time on value-added tasks. Individual EOBs can also be more easily searched and retrieved to improve customer service, and users view only one EOB specific to that patient visit, increasing security and HIPAA compliance.
