EDI 837 Processor

With the OnBase EDI 837 Processor, healthcare providers can process and research electronic claims more easily and efficiently. The 837 Processor parses out individual CMS 1500 (HCFA) and UB-04 forms from standard 837 data files, making the resulting output secure and searchable.

The OnBase EDI 837 Processor compresses the 837 data file (typically ASCII text) before processing the file using the selected EDI 837 process format. OnBase then identifies the beginning of each document and the correct document type for that page, dividing out individual claims. OnBase is compliant with the UB-04 format introduced in 2006 that allows for the reporting of the National Provider Identifier (NPI) number as well as the CMS 1500 form that includes both the NPI number and 40 other minor changes.

After searching for keywords assigned to the document type, OnBase stores the indexing information, and the EDI 837 Processor continues to identify and index pages until the file is complete. The EDI 837 Processor can also be scheduled to run during non-peak hours. Once in OnBase, individual claims can be retrieved and viewed using a customizable XML style sheet.

Application

Healthcare providers receiving 837 files without an effective way to manage the information can use the EDI 837 Processor to easily store, search and view individual files. By handling them with OnBase, employees can save time on retrieval and research, allowing them to spend more time on value-added activities. Because files are parsed to one document per claim, users only see the patient claim they need at a given moment, increasing security, privacy and HIPAA compliance.
