Document Import Processor (DIP)
The Document Import Processor (DIP) is the perfect companion for other front-end document capturing systems. DIP empowers customers to quickly and easily archive large numbers of document files with their related indexes, including documents generated by third-party applications. The Document Import Processor imports any document file type that can be viewed in OnBase.
DIP simply requires an ASCII text formatted index file listing the document files and their indexes to facilitate the import of documents into OnBase. OnBase offers powerful, yet flexible process configuration with user-defined field delimiters and separators and several file formats for the index file. DIP is commonly used to process image files, but it can process many other file types such as PDF, and Microsoft® Word. DIP files are imported into OnBase from any network location or through FTP from a mainframe or Website. Processes can be run on demand or scheduled to run unattended.
Processing is launched through the OnBase Client. During processing, the files are indexed and archived. The process also produces a verification report providing process times, the number and types of documents archived, and any errors or warnings encountered during processing. The DIP process can both use and update AutoFill keyword sets belonging to the processed document types. With the addition of OnBase OCR , image documents can be converted to text renditions, which can be easily searched for specific words or phrases. Batches can also be sent to an OnBase Document Imaging scan queue for document review or additional indexing.
Application
DIP benefits organizations needing to archive large volumes of documents and images generated by third-party capture applications or service providers. It is often used for large back-file conversions from legacy systems.
For example, a company that runs a third party application for capture can have the documents and data be sent directly into OnBase with ease. The documents can be imported into OnBase in the background, while still allowing the end users to remain in their existing familiar application. This brings the documents being captured from one system into another system to be stored with the rest of the documents they are related to, regardless of how or where they were generated.
