Host Enabler
OnBase Host Enabler allows customers direct access to their host applications and data through OnBase while incorporating the other powers and capabilities of the OnBase IDM System. With Host Enabler, customers can still conduct routine host related tasks such as data entry and retrieval, but also have the advantage of added capabilities like screen scraping and cross-referencing. Host Enabler supports IBM 5250 and 3270, ANSI, T-27 and VT terminal types running in a terminal window inside of the OnBase Client. OnBase supports DECLAT, File, HLCN, RUMBA AS400, RUMBA Mainframe, RUMBA UNIX, Serial, Telnet links and more. In addition, PC keyboards can be mapped to match the key positions of regular dumb terminal keyboards so users will maintain familiarity with their daily keyboard strokes and routines.
Application
Many organizations own both a host system and an imaging system. In most cases, both systems are maintained separately. Users enter the same information into both systems duplicating their efforts. Rather than spending valuable time to enter information into the host and then again into the imaging system, the screen scraping function within the Host Enabler can alleviate such measures. Working in conjunction with OnBase Document Imaging, Host Enabler allows users to enter new information into the terminal window, updating their host, perform a screen scrape, and use the same information to index an image through the Document Imaging interface. Now, users have a single point of entry of information into both systems.
Many times information on a user screen will cause the user to seek an answer or supporting information in another location. The location of such supporting information may be in a file room, a microfilm machine, or a separate imaging system. Typically the user must leave their workstation or login to another application to find such information. With Host Enabler running inside of OnBase on the user desktops, steps like that are unnecessary. For example, a customer service representative receives a call concerning an invoice. The service representative using OnBase simply double-clicked the invoice number on the host window, and the invoice, previously scanned by OnBase Document Imaging, would appear on the representative's screen. The customer service representative can instantly address any issues with the customer on the spot versus having to return the customer call at a later time. To further the customer service call, the invoice could be printed, faxed, or e-mailed upon request of the customer. |
