Storage Integration for EMC Centera®

The OnBase Storage Integration for EMC Centera provides organizations the option to store documents and images to EMC Centera enterprise content addressed storage (CAS) instead of standard file servers. The seamless integration at the application programming interface (API) level allows OnBase document retrievals from Centera to be completely transparent to the end user.

As an "EMC Centera Proven" integration, the integration allows OnBase to read and write from online magnetic write once, read many (WORM) Centera devices. The module uses a "key" identification method to provide an additional layer of security to store and retrieve documents. One key is generated for each item written to Centera, and OnBase then uses the key for subsequent retrievals promoting rapid and secure retrieval.

OnBase client workstations can directly connect to Centera or employ Distributed Centera Services, an included middle tier application that manages client connections to Centera and utilizes high performance caching for file retrieval.

Application

The Storage Integration for EMC Centera is a good fit for organizations looking for a way to increase security and compliance while maintaining online document retrieval performance. An alternative to near-line or off-line optical storage, this integration module assures that documents are inaccessible outside of OnBase and have not been externally altered. Unlike other WORM solutions, when documents reach their expiration, the integration can remove them from the media.

The Storage Integration for EMC Centera facilitates deployment of Centera as either a secondary committed or backup Disk Group copy. It is possible for Centera to be used as an alternative to removable backup media because a Centera unit can be replicated across a Wide Area Network (WAN) or Internet to a second Centera unit at a remote disaster recovery site. In the case that a primary Centera unit becomes unavailable, Storage Integration for EMC Centera allows OnBase to silently fail-over to the replicated Centera unit.
